Incorrect diet and poor lifestyle choices have a negative effect on body systems which become clogged and unbalanced. In any long term weight loss success the key is a well balance diet. Maintaining the right weight for your constitution is dependent on having good digestion, efficient metabolism and a healthy thyroid.
An inefficient metabolism is the main reason for excessive accumulation of fatty tissue within the body and not being able to lose weight efficiently. The ability to lose weight is dependent upon having good digestive fire, Agni, which increases efficiency of metabolic activity. Many diet programs rarely provide any long-term benefits as the weight loss is frequently gained back.
With an Ayurvedic weight loss approach you can reactivate metabolism, loose fatty tissue and transform into a state of health to achieve balance through diet, herbs and lifestyle.

When we eat, food is converted into energy. The term metabolism refers to the way, not the speed that the body processes and uses the food. Rather than faster or slower it is referred to as efficient or inefficient metabolism, or the way energy is used.
From an Ayurvedic point of view Agni relates to metabolic fire that is responsible for the rate of energy flow through the body. The flow of energy or the metabolic rate depends how well the thyroid is functioning and the hormone thyroxine is produced.
The best time of day to eat the main meal is between 11 am and 2 pm. This is because the digestive Pitta Fire, or Agni is at its peak and you will get maximum benefit. Dinner just needs to be a lighter meal as the digestion is weaker at that time of day. The body cannot assimilate large evening meals easily. The food is poorly digested and creates toxins or Ama, fat and excess weight.
The main reason for maintaining good digestive fire, Agni, is it helps to stimulate metabolism and remove Ama throughout the body. One of the easiest, inexpensive and effective ways to increase metabolism is to drink plain hot water. If you want to spice it up you can add ginger, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper. Though plain hot water is all you need.
As the metabolic rate decreases, weight is gained and turned into fatty tissue. To keep our digestive fire burning at optimum levels means that all the best nutrients will be extracted from foods to be distributed throughout the seven Dhatus or tissues in the body. The rest is turned into waste and eliminated.
Vata individuals with a Vata imbalance easily gain or lose weight when stressed. Vata people need regular meals, warm and nourishing fresh foods, with warming spices and adequate amounts of ghee or healthy fats. Dried foods such as crackers and chips should be avoided.
Pitta individuals should never skip meals or they will get irritable. They need regular meals with plenty of dark green bitter vegetables, squashes, asparagus, green beans and mild spices such as fennel or coriander.
Kapha individuals need to get moving. Warming spice, bitter leafy green and fresh foods are recommended. Cold drinks, raw salads, and late night dinners should be avoided.
