How to clear up feeling bloated.

‘Bloating’ according to Ayurveda is poor digestion where the body giving a signal that the body is out of balance.

According to Ayurveda medicine the foundation for good health is keeping your constitution or doshas in balance.  Each of these doshas thrives with a specific diet, exercise and lifestyle.  There are 3 doshas,  Pitta, Vata and Kapha.

How bloating and indigestion works on each of the doshas.

Vatas are enthusiastic, impulsive, tend to eat and sleep at irregular times.  They can become very bloated, flatulent and constipated.  Vatas are considered to be light, dry, cool and frequently don’t drink enough water which can contribute to their feelings of being bound up.    Because Vatas  frequently neglect themselves, they need to practice slowing down, grounding themselves, eat warmed, cooked foods and drink hot water to help the digestive system.

Pittas are vibrant, energetic, intelligent, passionate  and perfectionist.  They  have a medium build, strong endurance and are hot, oily and sweaty. like regularity  and digest quickly. Their digestion can burn too hot and cause ulcers, heartburn, acne, rashes and diarrhoea.  Pittas are overactive, intense emotionally, quick to criticise,  impatient and don’t like failure.

Because Pitta frequently overdo, they need take the pressure off themselves and bring mindfulness to their activities.  They need to eat fresh, wholesome foods, drink plenty of water and avoid over spicy, greasy and pungent foods.  What they need most for balance is cooling the mind and calming the body,  relax the hyperactive nervous system and stabilise the mind.   Find peace in balance.

Kaphas are slow and steady.  They are loving, affectionate, slow to anger and slow to eat.  Their sleep is sound and heavy, often have cool, damp, wet skin, thick wavy and oily hair.   They are known to procrastinate and be obstinate, prone to slow metabolism, and sluggish digestion.

There is a tendency to under do, have sluggish digestion, overweight, cholesterol, and respiratory problems like allergies and sinus disorders.  They need to increase their physical activities, cardiovascular exercise and abdominal toning to energise the internal body heat and digestion to tone up the digestive system,  avoid rich foods and dairy products that only show down the digestive track.  Drink lots of hot water, eat fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of soups.
