7 Reasons to Eat Healthy

Food is some of the best medicine you can get. By simply eating the right foods, at the right time for your constitution improve your health and fitness and reduce the risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Here’s how to adapt your food to live a healthier life.

  1. Banish Overeating
    Overeating can be a sign of malnourishment and the body’s reaction is filling up the body with sweets to obtain a sense of feeling satisfied.  The body is a finely honed instrument and needs to be nurtured and cared for.  Too often we take the body for granted expecting it to work perfectly for us until one day we notice symptoms of ill health.  Over eating burdens the internal organs and puts pressure on the system. Banish overeating by ensuring you eat fresh, quality foods, prepared well to nurture your body and mind.
  2. Choose Fresh and Healthy Foods
    Too often we don’t stop to eat and enjoy our  meals.  Being busy means we eat on the run, grabbing a snack here or there, or buying takeaways which offer little nutrition. Take time out to go shopping at s fresh vegetable shop or farmers markets and stock up with fresh fruits and vegetables.  They will last a longer time and make time to cook at least two or three meals at home during the week.   Buying fresh and local produce will ensure you get the best value from your foods.
  3.  Drink more hot water daily
    The body is made up mainly of water, and like a good garden, we need to water it during the day.  It is easy to get dehydrated as we simply forget to notice the need for fresh pure water.  Best way to help the body is to drink lots of hot water daily.  This helps with digestion and nourishes cells in the body.  Another bonus is cutting down on sugary, cold drinks that can lift your energy temporarily only to sap your energy shortly afterwards creating cycles of up and own.
  4.  Cook with Ghee
    Ghee is a magical food.  It is clarified butter with impurities being removed.  It has a higher cooking temperature unlike butter that can burn easily.  According to traditional medicine such as Ayurveda, ghee is consider to has special healing qualities and is one of the main ingredients in some of the ayurvedic medicines.Ghee, if used properly, is considered as a cleanser and helps remove negative emotional toxins to cleanse the mind and  body.  Ancient traditional medicine have always maintained there is a connection between the mind and body, and now modern research is revealing that negative emotions have a chemical nature that is stored in the body fat.  Ghee can be used to replace those fats. Plus, if used properly in a cleanse, can attract and pull out these emotional toxins so they can be cleansed from the body.
  5. Boost Your Brain
    It is important to eat quality foods that help to dispel mental fatigue and assist the mind’s innate ability to focus.   According to Ayurveda, memory-boosting foods include sweet potatoes, okra, spinach, oranges, carrots, milk, ghee (clarified butter), tapioca and almonds.  Another way to boost your memory is to use memory-boosting herbs such as Medhya herbs that include (1) Brahmi, (2) Jatamamsi, (3) Bhringaraj and (4) Shanka Pushpi.  A good memory boosting can can be made using these 4 herbs, simply steep 1 teaspoon total of these 4 herbs in a cup of hot water for ten minutes, strain and drink on an empty stomach.It is important not too eat not to each foods that are too dry,  frozen , left over  food or foods with high bitter or sour tastes as this may lead to indigestion.  Poor digestion results in the accumulation of toxins or ama in the body which leads to ill health, resulting from poor digestion.
  6. Eat at Midday
    Ayurveda placed great emphasis on the benefits of a well functioning digestive system.  According to Ayurveda the digestive fire is functions best between 10 am and 2 pm during the day.  That is the reason why eating your main meal during these times will help the body digest and extract nutrients to nourish the body when it is at its strongest.
  7. Increase Your Strength
     In moderation  all the 6 tastes of sweet, sour, bitter, pungent, salty and astringent will increase strength.   According to Ayurveda ancient healing medicine, the body is made up of these qualities and needs to have them replenished on a daily basis to promote  strength, enlighten the mind and stabilize the senses functions
